Body Electric — Experimental Editorial Maternity Photography at The Whistler Studio
A dreamlike maternity portrait series exploring motion, light, reflection, and transformation through experimental color and cinematic abstraction.

Motherhood is not a still life. Body Electric begins there.
Created at The Whistler Studio in Des Moines, this experimental editorial maternity series uses motion blur, layered reflection, and atmospheric light — washes of lavender, pulses of deep violet — to render pregnancy not as a moment held, but as a state of becoming. The body in transit. The self mid-transformation.
Where other work asks the subject to arrive, these images catch her moving through. Hair in motion. Form doubled in reflection. The silhouette sharp one frame, dissolved the next. Each image is less a portrait than a trace — evidence of something profound passing through the room.
This is Des Moines maternity photography rooted in contemporary art, cinematic abstraction, and the belief that the most honest images of motherhood are the ones that don't try to hold it still.
