Creative Engagement Photos in Downtown Des Moines

Leah and Tom’s engagement session started slowly — cards spread across a patio table, drinks arriving one round at a time, the kind of conversation that keeps stretching longer than expected. By the time the two of them made their way through downtown Des Moines, the evening had taken on its own rhythm. Sequins caught the last of the light, film blur softened passing movement, and the city around them started to feel quieter and more spacious.
Part of the session moved through the Western Gateway and the Krause Gateway Center, a building Tom’s own firm helped design, which made the location feel less like a backdrop and more like an extension of the story itself. Glass, concrete, reflections, and negative space balanced naturally against the looseness of the evening as Leah and Tom drifted between being photographed and simply being together.
Photographed on film and digital, the gallery leans into movement, atmosphere, architecture, and the smaller in-between moments that tend to matter more with time. For couples searching for engagement photography in Des Moines that feels observant, artistic, and grounded in genuine connection, this session offers a more personal approach to documenting a relationship.
