A Refined Sailboat Wedding on the Santa Barbara Coast

“The boat people just called - they said that the night before our wedding there was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Japan. They issued a tsunami warning overnight, but downgraded by the morning. The rocking we felt was the ripple effect from that earthquake, with wakes traveling under the surface at 5-7 ish miles a hour!!”
- Krystal, the day after her ceremony

Krystal and Ross’s sailboat wedding in Santa Barbara felt equal parts refined, cinematic, and deeply personal. Photographed mostly on film with a blend of digital imagery, the day unfolded between the marina, the water, and intimate architectural spaces filled with textured light and ocean air.
The entire celebration carried an effortless fashion sensibility — from Krystal’s Khaite NY dress and custom s.i.t.a.ny veil, both altered by Irenas Studio, to the golden hour ceremony aboard the sailboat and candlelit dinner afterward. Tuxedoed dachshunds, layered florals by Lavenders Flowers, and movement-filled portraits leaning into blur, grain, flash, and softness gave the entire day an atmosphere that felt both timeless and alive.
At the reception, the bride and groom took turns blindfolded, swinging at a luchador wrestler piñata while guests crowded around laughing — the kind of unexpected moment that made the wedding feel entirely their own. Unknown to everyone onboard, the movement beneath the sailboat ceremony was later revealed to be the lingering ripple effect of a 7.0 earthquake across the Pacific the night before. The result was a wedding that felt coastal, cinematic, and completely unforgettable.
